Global Maritime are supporting Arup and BlueFloat Energy on Columbia’s most advanced offshore wind project ‘Vientos Alisios’, with our GM Geo team providing Geoscience consultancy on the feasibility study.

Located some 32 kilometres off the coast of Barranquilla, Vientos Alisios was the first Colombian offshore wind project to be granted pre-feasibility.

The wind farm will include 28 bottom-fixed turbines that could generate enough energy to power 100,000 homes per year.

Earlier this year Colombia launched its Roadmap for the Deployment of Offshore Wind Energy with support from the World Bank and the United Kingdom government. The Roadmap provides clear guidelines to help the country adopt offshore wind as a viable renewable energy source and estimates that Colombia has the potential to install almost 50 GW of offshore wind capacity across more than 12,000 square kilometers of preidentified areas.
