Global Maritime (GM) have cemented their long terms ties in South Korea with the opening of a new office in Busan.

With a long track record for GM in South Korea primarily in the shipping and offshore sector, this latest addition to the GM global footprint has been driven by new markets and opportunities across the renewable energy sector, namely offshore wind.

As a part of its Green New Deal, South Korea aims to generate 20% of its power with renewables by 2030. The target for offshore wind capacity is 12 GW and this will be a blend of fixed bottom and floating offshore wind arrays.

“Having a stronger footprint in South Korea is strategically important to Global Maritime“ stated Anders Bidne, South Korea Country Manager, “It will allow us not only to continue to support our long standing clients in the region but, also enable us to develop and position ourselves for the renewable energy sector where we can now provide our specialist and owners engineering capability as local content”.

Speaking of the new office, GM CEO, Jonny Logan, added: “In GM we have a mission, which is to meet the challenges at sea. For this reason, we are fully committed to supporting the challenging energy transition plans of the Republic of Korea, making available to our local partners knowledge and experience accumulated in more than 20 years of offshore wind projects across Europe and Asia”.

This latest move by GM strengthens the presence across the APAC region and expands the strong global footprint that covers over 20 offices across 16 countries.
