Global Maritime’s Geosciences department has doubled in size over the last six months alone, driven by a 250% increase in revenue and secured workload in long-term offshore renewable energy projects around the world. Particular success has been realised in the European offshore wind sectors, working in specialist owners engineer roles, and in emerging offshore wind markets in APAC where Global Maritime are leveraging global experience through their local footprint.

“GM Geo”, as the department is referred to, has welcomed a wealth of expertise to its ranks, strengthening its geosciences provision for the global market.

And it’s come at a vital time for industry as efforts towards net zero shifts up a gear and energy security takes centre stage.

Each new team member has been selected for their specialist knowledge and the company’s recognition of the importance of local expertise and local client relationships.

  • Dr Ting Zhang
  • Dr Matt Owen
  • Dr Maryam Fattahi-Bandpey
  • Karlis Caucis

Amongst the department’s appointments is Dr Ting Zhang joins the Perth office as Principal Geotechnical Engineer and Geo Lead for Australasia, marking the company’s commitment to existing offshore energy clients on the NW shelf, but also new Australian offshore wind clients and their desire to be at the forefront of this nascent and exciting new market.

Dr Matt Owen joins the Geosciences business stream as Principal Marine Geologist, recognising the critical role that geology now plays in the effective development of offshore wind projects around the world. Dr Maryam Fattahi-Bandpey also joins as Senior Engineering Geologist, bolstering the geological capabilities of the team.

Finally, Karlis Caucis joins as Senior Geotechnical Engineer from Arup, adding to Global Maritime’s geotechnical analysis and GIR capabilities.

Team growth has been achieved across all key disciplines of Geography Information System (GIS), Subsea Cables, Engineering Geology, Geophysics and Geotechnical Engineering, supported by a portfolio of global projects. Strategic growth has also been initiated as part of a drive for globalisation, appreciating the importance of local expertise and local client relationships.

Speaking of the team’s expansion, Gareth Ellery, Director of Geosciences, said: “GM Geo’s growth is testament to the quality of our work, proactive engagement and dialogue with our valued clients and the incredible potential in the global offshore energy and renewables sector. We continue to recruit selectively and proactively in order to sustain our team welfare and culture, and to continue to delivery the best possible solutions and services to our clients.”
