We are delighted to announce that former Global Maritime employee, Mayte Medina, has been awarded the prestigious ‘Chevalier de l’Ordre du Mérite Maritime’ (Knight of the Order of Maritime Merit). This honour is in recognition of Mayte’s dedication and services to the maritime industry.

Mayte was originally employed and mentored by Chris Jenman, founder of Global Maritime, who retires this year after more than 40 years of service to the company. Working initially within our London office and then Rotterdam, Mayte is currently the Chairperson of the Maritime Safety Committee at the International Maritime Organization – the first woman to hold this position.

The Ordre du Mérite Maritime, a French order established in 1930, recognises the professional value of sailors and the merit of citizens who have distinguished themselves in the development of the maritime field, including the merchant navy, ports, and fisheries. The order can be awarded to merchant marine crew, civilian administrators, the crews of lifeboats and rescues, and naval military and personnel.

Congratulations Mayte on this excellent achievement from all at Global Maritime.
