Posted by: Global Maritime | Date: March 28, 2019

It is with great sadness that we learn that Dr. Barry Miller passed away on the morning of Sunday 10th March. Barry was one of the founding directors of Global Maritime when he joined in 1981 at the invitation of Chris Jenman and Dr. Ian Smith. Barry was foundational to Global Maritime’s successful technical development. He worked for the majority of his time in London, and also spent extensive time in Global Maritime’s Aberdeen and Houston offices. He was always willing to use his intellectual ability to solve difficult technical challenges, and gained a highly respected reputation throughout the industry as well as in the company. He showed great diligence to his work, but always had time to assist others. He was instrumental in many innovative developments within Global Maritime including the commercial software: GMoor and on board systems like SKAAS. In 2015 Barry’s contribution to the industry was acknowledged with an individual plaque onboard the Ocean Star, at the Offshore Energy Center in Galveston, Texas, USA. Barry retired from his role at Global Maritime after serving the company for more than 30 years, but he always kept in regular contact with people at the company and showed a keen interest in how the company was progressing. Barry was well known for his love of curry, reading and motorbikes. He will be greatly missed by all here, and we pass on our condolences to his wife Maureen and his children Claire, Aimée and Andrew.
