In 2009 IMO adopted the Hong Kong Hong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships, known as the Hong Kong Convention.

The Hong Kong Convention requires all ships of 500 GT and above to carry a certified Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM), a document that states what types and quantities of hazardous materials are present in the Ship’s Structure and equipment.

The European Union adopted the Hong Kong Convention under the Ship Recycling Regulation (EU SRR): these regulations are in force since the first of January 2021 and require any ship calling a port in the EU to comply.

Thanks to our numerous offices around the world and to our global network of subcontractors, Global Maritime can provide you with certified IHM inspector in any place and at any time.
