Posted by: Global Maritime | Date: October 3, 2018
Rafferty has been an executive in some of the world’s top aquaculture companies, including Marine Harvest, Cermaq and Skretting and has worked in Scotland, Chile, USA, The Netherlands and Norway over a career spanning more than 25 years.
Global Maritime is a marine, offshore and engineering consultancy company that specializes in marine warranty, dynamic positioning and engineering services. The history of the company is mainly in the oil and gas sector, however in 2012, Global Maritime started working on solutions for offshore farming for aquaculture. The company was a principle engineer and designer for the first Ocean Farming offshore farm that received approval from the Norwegian government for the new development licenses in Norway.
“We are extremely happy to have Steven Rafferty join the Global Maritime team as we expand into offshore farming and explore further development within the aquaculture industry. By bringing together Steven’s long experience and expertise in aquaculture, and Global Maritime’s offshore engineering and design capacities, we create a unique combination”, says Egil Kvannli, CEO of Global Maritime.
“The development of aquaculture and expansion of farmed seafood has given me a wonderful opportunity to participate in growing the industry sustainably. To grow the industry further in the next 10 years and beyond, we need to act differently and meet the demand for more sophisticated and innovative ways of producing seafood. Offshore and new ocean based systems offer excellent opportunities to grow the salmon industry in Norway and other countries, and to expand aquaculture globally”, says Steven Rafferty.
He further comments that “the technology transfer from other established industries like oil and gas will be important if we are to find solutions to expand in areas with stronger ocean currents and wave heights. Global Maritime has worked on designs that can be cost effective and allow not just offshore farming, but also offer solutions that allow more flexibility within the current licenses in Norway and other countries.”
Steven will join Global Maritime immediately on a part time basis and join full time on March 1st 2018. Global Maritime is owned by HitecVision.
