Thruster Reliability

In 1995 IMCA (International Marine Contractors Association) commissioned Global Maritime to carry out an extensive research project into the failure modes of CPP (Controllable Pitch Propeller) thrusters. The conclusions from the report have had a considerable impact on the industry and steps are being taken to improve thruster reliability. As a direct result of this work we were then commissioned by a leading manufacturer of frequency drives to carry out a comparison study. We were also commissioned by four thruster manufacturers to produce a common thruster specification template.

Global Maritime's expertise in thruster capabilities includes:

  • Development of Technical Specifications
  • Analysis of Thruster Reliability
  • Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)
  • Development of thruster Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Customer Acceptance Test (CAT) procedures
  • Technical review of thrusters regarding maintenance and reliability
  • Preparation of Healthcare Contracts
